Common myths

What brewery owners often get wrong

  • “My business pack covers everything.” Packs are designed for general shops and offices. Breweries often need extensions for spoilage, breakdown, recall and liquor.

  • “If I sell only from my taproom, I don’t need product liability.” Selling direct does not remove your responsibility for what you make.

  • “My landlord’s insurance covers my gear.” It usually covers the building, not your equipment, stock or liability.

  • “A spoiled batch is always covered.” Only certain causes are. Brewing errors are commonly excluded.

  • “Motor insurance covers the beer in my van.” It covers the vehicle. The load needs goods in transit cover.

  • “Insurance is the same everywhere, so the cheapest is fine.” Wording, limits and exclusions differ. A low price can hide a gap.

  • “I don’t need to tell my insurer about changes.” New equipment, a taproom or a second site can all affect cover and must be declared.
