Wind & Weather Insurance
Wind is one of the most common causes of damage to businesses. A gust lifts roof sheeting, flips an outdoor umbrella, snaps a sign or sends a tree through a fence.
Wind and weather cover is usually part of the storm section of a business property policy, but outdoor items and exposed structures are often treated differently.
What it can cover
- Roof and wall damage from wind
- Fallen trees and branches
- Signs, awnings and shopfront fittings
- Fences, gates and outdoor structures
- Stock and contents damaged by wind-driven rain
Things that are often limited or excluded
- Marquees, umbrellas, shade sails and outdoor furniture
- Items not securely fixed
- Damage to structures in poor condition
- Temporary or event structures
Case study
An example
Strong winds tear a shade sail off a cafe's outdoor dining area. It damages tables and the awning. Cover for outdoor structures and furniture may respond if included. If the sail wasn't properly fixed or the policy excludes outdoor items, the claim could be reduced or declined.
Illustrative example only. Cover depends on your policy wording.
