Storm & Weather Damage Insurance

Sydney storms can turn up fast. Hail, flash flooding, wind and heavy rain. Roofs leak, gutters overflow, trees come down and stock gets wet.

Storm cover is normally part of a business property policy, but the details around flood, rainwater and gradual leaks matter a lot.

What it can cover

  • Roof, wall and window damage from storm or hail
  • Water entering through storm-damaged openings
  • Damage to stock and contents from storm water
  • Fallen trees and debris
  • Clean-up costs
  • Flood, if the policy includes it

What it usually doesn't cover

  • Gradual leaks and poor maintenance, like blocked gutters
  • Damage to things left outdoors, depending on the policy
  • Flood, if the policy excludes it
  • Insurers separate storm from flood. Rain running off the roof is one thing. Water rising from a creek is another. Know which one you have.

Case study

An example

A hailstorm punches holes in the roof of a small factory. Rain pours onto machinery and stock. The policy responds to the roof repair, damaged machinery and stock. If the roof had been in poor repair beforehand, the insurer may dispute part of the claim.

Illustrative example only. Cover depends on your policy wording.
