Glass Insurance
Glass breaks. A break-in, a stray cricket ball, a delivery truck backing up, a thermal crack on a hot day. For shopfronts, it's often the first thing people notice and the first thing you have to fix.
Glass insurance covers the cost of repairing or replacing broken glass, and often the temporary boarding-up and security needed until it's done.
What it can cover
- Shopfront windows and glass doors
- Display cabinets, counters and shelves
- Mirrors and glass partitions
- Signs and neon
- Emergency boarding up
- Removal of debris and cleanup
What to check
- Whether the policy covers glass only, or includes the frame and fittings.
- Whether large panes and specialty glass have special limits.
- The excess. Small breakages might not be worth claiming.
- Whether glass is included in your building policy or needs to be added.
Case study
An example
A retailer arrives to find the front window smashed after a break-in. The cost includes the replacement pane, emergency boarding and cleanup. With glass cover, the repair is claimed and the shop reopens in a couple of days.
Illustrative example only. Cover depends on your policy wording.
