Dump Truck Insurance
Heavy trucks work hard. Quarries, building sites, mines and civil jobs mean rough ground, heavy loads and long days. Standard motor insurance rarely fits.
Dump truck and haul truck cover is built for owner-operators and fleets in earthmoving, civil construction, quarrying and mining support. It protects the truck itself and the liability that comes with running it.
What it can cover
- Accident damage to the truck, on road and on site
- Fire, theft and malicious damage
- Rollover and tip-over, where included
- Third party property damage
- Towing and recovery
- Hire cost while your truck is being repaired, as an extension
Things that matter with heavy trucks
Where it operates
Insurers treat on-road, off-road and mine site use differently.
Agreed or market value
Choose carefully. It affects what you're paid after a total loss.
Operator experience
Many insurers set conditions on driver age and experience.
Load and tipping
Cover for loss while loading, tipping or unloading may need to be added.
Compulsory third party (CTP)
Registered separately and not part of this cover.
Case study
An example
An owner-driver is working a civil site when the ground gives way as the tray rises. The truck rolls and is badly damaged. The recovery crane, the repair and the lost work all add up. With the right cover on the policy, towing and recovery plus the repair or write-off can be claimed. If the policy excluded off-road use, the claim could be declined.
Illustrative example only. Cover depends on your policy wording.

Dump truck insurance FAQs
Not always. Tell us exactly where and how the truck works, so the policy matches it.
Usually yes. It can be simpler and sometimes cheaper.
Not automatically. Goods in transit is a separate cover.
Separate again. Many contractors need both, and some sites require it before you can start.
