Accidental Damage Insurance

Things get dropped. Screens get cracked. A forklift clips a rack, a cleaner knocks over a display, someone puts a ladder through a ceiling panel. None of it is anyone's fault in a way that matters, but it still costs money to fix.

Accidental damage cover is there for the sudden, unexpected damage that happens during normal business life. It usually sits as an extension on a business property or contents policy, and it's one of the covers we see people skip because they assume it's already included. Often it isn't.

Sudden accidental damage to equipment and stock during normal business operations.

  • Broken glass, signage and windows

Impact and accidental breakage to glass, shopfronts, windows and signage.

What it usually doesn't cover

  • Deliberate damage
  • Faulty workmanship or manufacturing defects

Case study

An example

A café owner in Norwest is moving a new espresso machine into place. It slips off the trolley and cracks the base and the water tank. The machine is a write-off and the tiles underneath are chipped. With accidental damage cover on the policy, the claim can respond to the machine and the floor repair, less the excess. Without it, the café wears the whole cost.

Illustrative example only. Cover depends on your policy wording.

It's worth checking. Some policies cover it, others only cover your own staff. Ask us before you rely on it.
